ND7K Goes Big for CQ WPX SSB 2025
Dan Craig N6MJ Leads an A-Team in a High-Stakes U.S. M/M Showdown
W1DED Worldwide Ham Radio Contest Crew member, Daniel Craig N6MJ led an all-star team in a Multi-Multi run from ND7K for the CQ WPX SSB this past weekend — and they delivered: 9449 QSOs, 1701 prefixes, and a claimed score of 33,283,467 (the previous U.S. record was 31,335,980)
The plan came together months ago when Tim Duffy K3LR floated a friendly challenge: go head-to-head for the top U.S. M/M. Station owner Tim N6WIN didn’t hesitate. “It was an honor to invite so many great ops to come out to the desert. We may not have five-star lodging, but we make up for it with effort, camaraderie, and a little post-contest beer by the pool.”
The ND7K crew was made up of top operators from across the country, each focused on squeezing every ounce of performance from the bands — and each other.
Band teams:
10m: Scott Tuthill K7ZO, Bill Fehring W9KKN, Dave Pascoe KM3T
15m: Christopher Hurlbut KL9A, Levi Jefferies K6JO, Mitch Mason K7RL
20m: Dave Mueller N2NL, Nathan Moreschi N4YDU, John Dorr K1AR, Marty Sullaway NN1C
40m: Dan Craig N6MJ, John Collard W4IX, Davis Coughanour AG7GB
80m: John Golomb N2NC
A few highlights from Dan’s recap: W4IX ran 40m nearly nonstop for 48 hours. Aiden, Tim’s son, made his first QSO and is now planning to get licensed. KL9A and Tim’s wife, Tina KJ6JET, kept the crew going with top-tier meals, including a legendary Sunday dinner. And without Levi arriving early to help prepare the station — and Bill reworking the MOAS system from the ground up for M/M — the weekend wouldn’t have happened.
While K3LR’s crew took the top spot and shattered the 2014 NQ4I U.S. record, ND7K punched back hard — showing that you don’t need five-star digs to compete at the top level. With a dialed-in station, sharp ops, sheer determination, and a fresh vision for greatness, this team proved they were in it to win.
We think they'll be back.
